Moon gates date back to the fourth century in China. The full moon-shaped opening has been considered by many to be a doorway to another world. As an entry to a garden, a moon gate draws visitors into a welcoming outdoor space. Sometimes called full moon gates, these gates typically consists of a round opening in a large wall that creates an entrance into a garden or other outdoor area. These gates are traditional structure that has been utilized for centuries throughout China and was originally used primarily by the wealthy.
