Costumize Your Window Curtains
Customize your curtains to create a personalized look without spending a lot of money. If you’re one of those really creative types of people, then custom curtains can really be a great tool as they allow you to be as creative as you want to be. Here are several ideas to costumize your window curtains. Transform solid curtains into prints with stencils and fabric paint. For an elaborate design, mix multiple stencils. Botanics with birds evoke an aviary look for a living room; suns, moons and stars add galactic cool to a kid’s room. Aligning the stencils so each repetition is exactly the same is a task for the engineer in you. Keep it loose and random for an easier-to-execute, more casual effect. When stencils feels too fussy, dip a wine bottle cork in fabric paint to create polka dots, or use a yardstick and a pencil to create graphic stripes, then trace over them in fabric paint or fabric marker. Investigate the effects of glittery, puffy, neon and metallic fabric paints — when used thoughtfully, they can add shimmer and an element of surprise.
If you have basic sewing skills, your options expand. With two sets of curtains, or a several mismatched singles from a salvage shop, you can cut them apart and reassemble them to make a coordinating design in a color-block style. Using 3 or 4 patterned curtains together puts you into country-patchwork territory. If all the curtains are solid colors, this look can be geometric and modern.
