Installing Soapstone Countertops In Your Kitchen
Soapstone countertops are often used in kitchens. Here are some ways to install soapstone countertops in the kitchens. First of all, remove all the materials kept inside the kitchen cabinets and make them empty. Next, you have to remove the existing kitchen counter. Then measure the length and breath of the rectangular part of the countertop. While taking measurements for countertops, do not forget to include about 3 cm at the front edge for the overhang. For an irregular shaped stone, prepare templates with plywood and cut the stone as per that measurement. Place the template over the stone and mark its border with a pen. Keep a straight edge along the marked line and cut the stone using a circular saw fitted with a diamond blade. After cutting the stone, you must sand the top and the edges of each piece with a 36 grit sandpaper using belt sander. Next, you should position the stones in such a way that the veins of two adjacent pieces of stone merge with each other so well that the soapstone countertops appear to be seamless. Start gluing the stone along the edge of the countertop and proceed towards the wall.
Pick up one stone from the area and put adhesive caulk in a thin line to the cabinet and place the stone back to its position. While caulking the second stone, apply quick drying epoxy along its seams to fix it with the first stone. The rough edges of the soapstone countertops has to be smoothed with a 80-grit sandpaper. The fine sanded marks that are left behind can be eliminated with the help of a finer grit sandpaper. Finally, apply little mineral water on the new countertop surface using a clean and dry rag.
