Size Your Tablecloth To Fit Your Table
A tablecloth is a very important linen item in a home. You would think that might make it simpler to find a tablecloth to fit your table, but it can get confusing. Once you know your table’s measurements and how you want the tablecloth to drape, the rest is easy. Measure across your table from front to back to get the depth. Measure from side to side to get the width of your table. Decide how far you want the tablecloth to drape down over the sides of the table. This is called the drop, and can be anywhere from about 8 inches to the full 30 inches between the top of the table and the floor. Most table settings include a drop of 12 inches, which has the edge of the tablecloth just brushing the seats of the chairs.
Double your preferred drop and add it to the length and width of your table to get the appropriate size tablecloth. Use a square tablecloth in the nearest size for a round table and a rectangular tablecloth for an oval table if you cannot find those shapes in your table’s size. Rectangular tablecloths are often labeled as “Oblong.” Go up one size if your measurements do not correspond to a standard tablecloth size.
